Bed covering filled with down or down and feather blends. Typically white and with box construction. Also called comforter.
Feathers

Duvet cover
Similar to a pillowcase, this is a large covering for a duvet to protect it from dirt and embellish your bedroom. Duvets need to be put inside.
Duvet cover set
Coordinated set normally containing pillow case, bed sheets and duvet cover.
Open construction (Baffle Box)
Type of duvets where the filling is kept in three-dimensional cases made of a bottom layer, a top layer and internal distancing bellows. This method is used for the making of the warmest items. The "small cases" (boxes) in which the filling is kept communicate with each other. The outside border can be trimmed with small perimetrical cords or with bellows.
Closed construction
Type of duvets where the two sheets of the down proof fabric are fixed between each other forming boxes in which the filling is kept. The boxes are sealed and the downs cannot move from one box to another. The outside border is trimmed with bellows or with a border; the latter is possible also with buttonholes.
Trio
Duvet composed of two items connected to each other by buttons, can also be used separately. This is a three in one.
Pillowcase
Like a bag for the pillow to protect it.
Quill
Central part of feathers in keratin where fibres grow.
Filling Power
Relation between weight and volume of the down cluster. The higher the filling power, the better the quality of the filling.
Nomite
International certification that guarantees the hypoallergenic characteristics of the item.
Oeko-Tex
International certification, which guarantees that the textiles used where not produced with substances potentially noxious to human health.
Edfa
European Down and Feather Association. Certificates and guarantees not only the quality of downs and feathers and of its manufacturing but also the quality of animal treatment in breeding farms.
Down proof fabrics
Tightly woven cotton fabrics to cover the filling in down or down and feather blend in its inside. Needs to be "down proof", very soft and extremely light.
Warmth coefficient:
Tightly woven cotton fabrics to cover the filling in down or down and feather blend in its inside. Needs to be "down proof", very soft and extremely light.
Mixture
Percentage of downs/feathers in an item.
Down
A very light and soft puff, which grows under the breast feathers of geese. Each down cluster (= a single unit of down) is made up of thousands of soft fibres radiating in all direction from a central point, which give volume and softness to the filled item.
