All DaunenStep items are made by hand with tailoring accuracy and expertise. Duvets get manufactured with two different techniques: closed construction or open construction.

Duvets with closed construction: the two cotton fabrics, which close the filling inside them, are fixed between each other. All of the so produced boxes are sealed on all four sides. The outside border of the item is trimmed with a small tape or a double stitch, depending on the model.

Duvets with open construction (Baffle Box): the two cotton fabrics are not directly sewn together but are internally linked with distancing ribbons. In this way every box is in reality a small case. This technique is used for the warmest items because these small cases can contain a higher quantity of down. The boxes are not sealed but they communicate with each other. The outside border can be trimmed with perimetrical cords or with bellows.

Quilts: Daunenstep manufactures its quilts in two different ways: with two or three layers. The technique with two layers is used when both the upper and the lower layer are down proof. This technique is used for the making of our Easy line items, like DUNA and DUNA TINTA UNITA
The technique with three layers is used when the decorative layer is not down proof. In this case the duvet gets closed inside a shell of down proof fabrics and afterwards a third decorative textile is applied. This makes it possible to use textiles like silk or the most fashionable shot textiles to obtain a fascinating item. At the same time it is assured that the precious filling will not get lost.
